Week 6 October 10, 2017

ADJ-243, Fall 2017, Written Assignment

1. The assignment must be 4 typed, double-spaced pages with one inch margins. Use APA citation for your resources. For help with APA citations see: http://libguides.nvcc.edu/APACitationStyle

2. Due to me in class November 15, 2017.

3. Please read the following papers:

a. Executive Summary of Review of the Unauthorized Disclosures of Former National Security Agency Contractor Edward Snowden (from a report by the U.S. House of Representatives). See:

 https://www.hsdl.org/?view&did=795448

b. New York Times opinion article "Pardon Edward Snowden." See:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/15/opinion/pardon-edward-snowden.html?_r=1

As you will see, the House of Representatives report is highly critical of Snowden, while the NYT article calls for his pardon. The positions stated in these papers are representative of two groups of thought on Snowden: some consider him to be a criminal while others feel that he is a hero for exposing U.S. anti-terrorism surveillance activities that, in their opinion, go too far.

Do you believe that Snowden is a hero or a villain?

Please choose a position and support it with facts and analysis.  You should use the Executive Summary and NYT article and other resource material that you can find online or in the library to support your position.
